1. My response after being
asked to make a Comfort Stand EP "Now just
what specifically do you have in mind?"
I used the numbers-loop as a bases and added
layer after layer. This is my first attempt
to combine samples (of 365 days mainly) and
live-instruments.
2. Created during a sleepless
night, using several flutes, guitar, keyboard
and samples of Prokofiev, Chris Knox, ELO, Chess,
Cheech and Chong, Jeff Wayne, 365 days, NASA,
Nixon, Bowie, Baghwan, Jan Turkenburg and many
others.
3. After listening to the
final result I found this to be the only possible
title. Instruments used: nylon string
guitar, "prepared" steel string guitar,
screwed up banjo, violin, panpipes, flute, plastic
piccolo, keyboard, vibraslap, "slurk"(one
note flute sliding down in a tight tube), small
djembé and Glockenspiel. Samples used:
Dutch radio-broadcasts from 1945, Star Trek
movies, 365 Days, J.F. Kennedy, Ramses Shaffy,
seashore sounds, a busking cello player in Besancon
France 1986, warming up at the Geert
Grote School, a personal rehearsal tape
and a few random sounds found on the internet.
Vocals: me, myself and our two cats:
Neelix and Karel who entered the room just at
the right moment.
4. Minimal piece, using four
notes of Jurriaan Andriessen's "Eyebrow
of Hedwig" and samples of "Gala's
make up cursus". This is my sonic interpretation
of an artwork by photographer Margreet Vloon.
Pictures of a face cut into more than 30 square
pieces that don't fit together. The words you
hear are the Dutch names of all the parts of
the face and a few instructions how to put make
up on.
5. This is my fifth tribute
to the 365 days project, using samples from
September
20-30. |
